Help...what Freeview set-top box to get??

MattJoyce (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 8th August 2004, 10:25

Please help....whats a good make Freeview set-top box?

All I`m looking for is good picture and sound, and the
potential to scroll down and see the listings for the
channel. Im not interested in flashy gimmicks.

Talking to the guy in Curry`s yesterday, he said
that it doesnt matter what make you get, as digital
pic and sound will be just as good from a brand name box
to that of a cheapie Goodmans.
So why the large difference in prices bewtween boxes,
and are the cheapies any good?

You need to work out if you want to view the information for 7 days worth of Tv or just a simple now and next ( or full days listing on digital teletext ) as not all boxes can handle the 7 days program guide but some will get over the air updates to enable it , check out the digital spy site for info on what boxes can do the 7 day epg.

Matt

I have been thinking of getting not only a Freeview STB but also a DAB Radio. With those in mind I might take the plunge and get the Goodmans GDB 5 from Argos at £99.99 and kill two birds with the one stone as they say :) So that would be my recommendation :)

If it`s any help. I have a Daewoo freeview box and it works very well even on my loft aerial.
But the most important piece of advice is: don`t talk to the guy in Currys !!
