Page 1 of Yamada DVR8000 DVD Recorder
Hardware Forum
Hi folks,
I am thinking of buying the region 2 version from Richer Sounds for £120. Does the multiregion hack from the thread below work?
http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=299573&Type=1
Also, I have read a comment on a moneysavingexpert.com message board about cheap DVD recorders that Richer Sounds had had a few of these returned as they were not working. Have any of you had good luck or bad luck with this machine so far?
My alternative is a Mico Espejo 311 which has been reduced to £170 in my local Sainsbury`s (which is £30-£50 more expensive than Yamada`s products).

AFAIK, there is a handset hack on the Yamada to make it region free. I know a couple of people who`ve bought them and are very happy with them
I`ve had the Mico and it`s a decent machine...It`s a bit fiddly in playback (fast forward and skip on the same button is tricky to use), but it`s excellent value..Never had a disc it wouldn`t write to, either

Have had this machine for a couple of months now. I bought it from Richer Sounds (they let me have the `all region` version for the price of the R2 as they `did not have the R2 version in stock`. The `hack` is actually documented on the yamada web site, so should really be called a feature, and therefore should work.
I would recommend the official firmware upgrade if required, as it allows you to edit the channel id`s, and change their order. (my one did not). It also makes the unit `region free` as default according to Yamada.
The only problem I have had was a lock-up when I tried to record a disk longer than the settings allowed. A reboot cleared it, no problems since.
Using Bulkpaq DVD+R & +RW
Please note that a lot of information can be obtained from the FAQ on the Yamada web site
