Hikona TDVD-1001 from Tesco

Dear All

Thought you might be interested to learn of my experience with the Hikona TDVD-1001 purchased from Tesco for the amazing price of £29.97.

For this price you get PAL > NTSC conversion, progressive scan capability (not much use in UK yet, I guess) and component video, composite and S-video outputs. As this is a cheap import I thought there might be a multiregion hack available somewhere, but to my great joy it plays all the discs that I have tried (regions 2, 3 and 4) without modification (even though it`s printed with "region 2" logo). It also has a nice JPEG browser for my digital photos and isn`t a bad looking machine (mirror finish fascia, very slim - but a rather wide unit).

All in all, probably the cheapest multi-region player currently available.

Despite all this I would still be interested to know of any web resouces available for this player (e.g. macrovision off hack) if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Cheers,

Andrew

Are you sure about PAL >NTSC CONVERSION? Don`t you just mean it`s PAL and NTSC COMPATIBLE?

Emily

Sorry, I meant to type "NTSC > PAL conversion". What I mean is that you can play NTSC format discs and the output will display on a PAL TV.

Hope that clarifies it . . .

Just bought the TDVD-1001, and for the price can`t reallt fault it. Can`t get it to play DVD-R although the box cover states it is DVD-RW and DVD
+RW compatable. Any suggestions most welcomed.

Brands: Memorex, Sony and TDK. Have also tried TDK DVD-RW which also won`t play. Recording method is DVD Shrink and NERO.

Can I clarify that the Hikona TDVD-1001 from Tesco will play Region 1 DVDs (not Region 2 in NTSC format - do rhese exist) because a separate message from jonno394 says his will only play Region 2?

Hi,

I purchased the Hikona TDVD 1001 from tescos to go with my Minato 14" ST1411 model tv, I purchased a scart lead with all pins connected and my DVDs play in Black and White, any suggestions would be appreciated.

are trying to play non PAL dvd`s as your Minato tv might not be able to accept NTSC signals which is why its coming out black and white.
