Panny e85 DVD-R won`t play on my client`s machine

Jefferson Haliday (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 17th August 2004, 15:42

Recorded an interview for a client on DVD-R, finalised it plays back fine on my PC and my dated Kenwood but won`t work on his machine, his mate has tried it on his machine and it won`t work nor does it work on my colleague's X-Box
What do I do?

Sounds like compatability with their machines and the DVD-R media. If their machines will play DVD-R it could be the brand of media you`re using.

dvdrs will play on most machines did youy record it in avi or mpeg ? dvd players only play back mpeg. if this is the case then try converting it to mpeg this will do job.

so many holes here I don`t know where to start! Lol

DVD-R plays on about 90% of machines, but not all, and the poster has said it plays on two, but not on their client`s machine.
DVD players do not only play back Mpeg, but DVD Video standard is Mpeg 2.
As the thread is titled "Panasonic E85 DVD-R" it`s pretty doubtful it`s an avi, more likely to be a compliant Mpeg 2 file.
Therefore, a conversion to another video format will very probably NOT "do job".

However, as someone has mentioned above, the most likely problem will be the disc compatibility.
Try to get your hands on a Ritek dyed disc, or a Prodisc (and before anyone else says it, yeah, the type used by Bulkpaq on their printables....out of 100 discs so far, I`ve had one failure and it wouldn`t even read in the writer, so not an incompatible disc, but a faulty one!)
If you get said disc type, reburn via either a PC writer (disc to disc copy), or worst case, from your working player back into your panasonic.

Theoretically should cure it, unless the client machine is completely incapable of reading recordable discs.

First question should be-was the disc finalised?? If not, that`s going to be the reason why. Some playersd will handle unfinalised discs ,but most won`t
