Page 1 of Which iRiver?
Hardware Forum
I am looking to buy an MP3 player (i`m not interested in an apple player) but can`t choose between the H140 or H120. Apart from the difference in capacity (and price) is there anything else I should bare in mind?

I bought the H140 because it had double the capacity of the H120 but was only thirty pounds more (from Amazon UK anyway). As far as I know, that`s the only difference apart from the colour.
I posted some comments about the H140 on these pages http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=330136&Type=1
Cheers
hi, sorry to but in ;) but i wondered if you could answer a couple of questions :)
1. do the i-river players read "inside" folder`s and if so, does it "skip" streight into the next folder once it`s finished the first ?
2. is the battery life as good as it`s stated, i need a minimum of 8 hours between charges.
cheer`s :D

Same for me -went for 140 from Amazon as double capacity for small price increase. I don`t think there is any other difference than extra 20Gb.
1) Yes it moves straight onto the next folder (unless you have set a speific option to random play a folder then stop)
2 ) battery life is excellent -easily over 8 hours. I can`t say for certain exactly how long as I rarely run it all the way down.
one more question 8)
are the batteries A. replacable, B.easy to get hold of & reasonably priced :)
thanks again

The batteries are not replaceable. It`s the only really major drawback with the H100 series. I read somewhere that you will get an average of four or five years life out it, then you`ll basically have a dead machine. The remedy might be to send it to iriver for a new battery, although I`ve no idea how much that would cost (plenty probably).
Then again, in four years there`ll be new players around that will make the iRiver/iPod look like a first generation Walkmans. :)
Meantime you`ll be well served by the H140. Just my opinion though. It`s always worth reading some professional reviews before forking out.
Cheers

I understand that iRiver are doing a battery replacement program, and the price will be more like £40 than the ransom Apple are charging. But I can`t recall where I read this, so can`t back this up with a solid link. Sorry!
Also, the iHP120 seems to be in short supply - think it`s been phased out for the new range with colour screen :/

Just got this (about replacement batteries) off Amazon, from one of the reviews of the iRiver:
Quote:
iRiver repair center can replace for you at USD 15 per piece, after the warranty period.

This is the Amazon review which refers to battery replacement in the UK - I kept a copy for reference when I bought mine.
