MACROVISION TOTAL SOLUTION ............ (wanted)

BigIan (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 14th April 2001, 11:18

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Pioneer 535 from RS (multi region) but has a problem with Macrovision on both composite and S-vidio. What I need is a macro disable patch – does anybody have a solution to this problem?

Alternatively I could purchase an external macrovision decoder (what ever) but in this regard I again need advise from anybody that has experience of these external box’s. And where to purchase them from (by experience! Not I know a guy who bought one from xxx). -- Will a timebase corrector solve the problem??

Another solution could be to build a decoder, there are a number of sites on the web that provide solutions, circuits etc but again advise is required, a number of circuit are hardware only and some are a combination of sw + hw, which is the best way to go??.

So, you knowledgeable people, please help!

Regards
BigIan

The region coding and Macrovisin is all handled in the firmware therefore it makes no difference if your player is already multiregion it needs new firmware which will overwrite this .... in otherwords you require a full mod to your player for auto region and macro diable

Thanks for the response Steve but if I take this direction my warrantee will be void and that is quit a risk to take. Also having now looked at the dvdchips web site there are two types of mod, one is DIY the other, in-house requires no soldering ... do you know how that works.

Thanks
BigIan

There are two types of mod like you say ....

firstly the diy mod ............remove the firmware chip and replace it with a modified firmware chip (very tricky)

Secondly take/send the player to a dvd chipper who can reprogram the existing firmware chip inside the player to Multiregion / Macro disabled without even removing the cover

try www.upgradeheaven.co.uk they do the mod for the pioneer without removingthe cover ond macrovision is completely disabled . it also enables RCE discs to play without problems

I’m grateful for your recommendation David,

I now have the dilemma of which service to use, DVDchips or Upgradeheaven for the mod since I have no intention of desoldering and then resoldering a 44 pin IC into the 535.

However is the mod from both parties identical or is there some advantage of going a particular route? Of course I have no wish to lose any functionality and understand that some mods inhibit the RGB output, can any body throw any light on this issue??

It doesnt matter who you use ... we both do auto region with RCE compatibility and macro disabled , if you take it to Justin (Upgrade Heaven) then it will have to be during shop hours whereas I work from home and can be more flexible

Other websites to look at are ...
