I`m lookng for a suitable PDA, mainly for Sat Nav but don`t want to pay a fortune.
I`ve come across this from Dell for £152,
I`m not too bothered about bluetooth, but will the 312MHz processor and 32MB SDRAM be up to the job?

You`d have to then add on the Sat Nav kit itself, with a GPS receiver starting around £80+ and then the software, or an all in one type bundle.

I just returned a Mitac Mio 168, not because of it`s abilities, but because the retailer took over 28 days to send me the CoPilot 5 upgrade I was waiting for.

You can get the Mitac with CP5 now for under £395, and it`s a nice piece of kit. Integrated GPS receiver (use it walking!), includes an in car external receiver (for when it`s crap weather!!), and a windscreen mount/car charger.

The mount wasnt too bad for wobbling either, and the only real downsides to the machine was it couldn`t do the CoPilot live via mobile phone function, and it made a "whizz" noise upon activating the screen/pressing a function (not a fault, it`s just the machine powering up again...and wasnt that bad to be honest!!)

It`s now made in other guises too, via other outlets, and you could do a helluva lot worse for £400...
Other route I`m considering on the replacement is summat like an iPaq with a GPS "jacket" making it "mobile" too, but I dunno just how good those receivers are... :/

Is the spec. of the Axim ok though?

I got the Medion one from Aldi last time they did them, and am pleased with it. Even just as a pocket pc it`s good, the sat nav is a nice extra feature. Aldi must be due to do them again soon, they seem to do them every six months or so, so can`t be that far of doing them again.

I phoned Dell today and the bloke told me that the 312MHz processor and 32MB SDRAM would not be sufficient for Sat Nav.

I`m confused.

Was he just trying to sell me something dearer?
