Hi, i`ve got a standard Aiwa Hi-Fi (Z-HT530) with Dolby Pro-Logic built in with 5 speakers, i wanna get Dolby Digital to go with my Philips 711 DVD player. I`ve seen a Kenwood KRF-V5030 Dolby Digital receiver at Richersounds for about 120 quid and this seems good value. What Confuses me is do i have to plug in all my speakers from my Hi-Fi to the receiver? if i do this i won`t be able to use my CD Player or Tape or Radio will i? and i don`t really wanna have to keep plugin and unplugin the speaker cables all the time to use my CD and radio. Plese help as you can see i`am new to all this game! Or if anyone can recommend another receiver with better specs for under 150 quid, thanks for any help.
If your Aiwa HI-Fi are all separate componets, then all you have to do is to connect them to the new Kenwood receiver. Since the Kenwood is a receiver, it has a tuner built in. The DVD player can play CDs anyway. The only other component you need to connect is the tape player. Just plug the speakers to the receiver and away you go. By the way, you will need a digital connection from the DVD to the receiver. This can be an optical or co-ax cable depending on the player and the receiver.
i bought a 5030 excellent unit for the money dixons are still selling these for 199.00 im very happy with mine i utilised my speakers off my aiwa hi fi but later bought some decent ones them sold my aiwa the only snag i have with the 5030 is that it lacks bass and it sounds not so good with music cd but shot a dvd track through it and its spot on ive just bought a sub woofer for it you would defitinally need one ive got minehooked up by digital optical spot on ! for £120 there a steal thats if you can get one as they are discontinued now chow!
Thanks for ya advice guys, so if i can`t get one of the Kenwood Receivers can anyone recomend a decent receiver under 200 quid with Dolby Digital and mybe DTS? I`ve got an all in one kinda Hi-Fi, i`am really happy with the sound and the Bass is really good on it, i just wanna get Dolby Digital for my DVDs.
You can get the excellent Yamaha DSP E-800 for £250. This is an add-on processor which lets you keep your existing hi-fi amp.
It does DTS and the sound is outstanding. Downside is more spagetti / messy cabling.
