How do you mean in general terms, what other "better ways" are there

List what equipment you have Makes/models and what conections they have and what you want it to do. It will help us determin the "best way" But in general terms with standard equipment RGB would be the best.
If you have a dog, tell us what type it is.

Welcome by the way. I take it the fee is in the post?

i have purchased a 42" Panasonic plasma model No TH-42PA20 with the following connections
3 scarts (2rgb), component video, s_video input, composite video input, stereo audio input, stereo audio output.

I will be using SKY+ which has 2 scarts, phono leads and optical audio lead, RF in, RF out 1, RF out2, S-video lead

I am going to purchase a DVD to a max value of approx £500, However i have not got a clue as to what yet hence why i am trying to establish what inputs/outputs it would require.

Basic set up.

Sky to plasma: RGB via scart.

DVD to plasma: Get one with component that can do progressive out.

You have not said you are using an A/V amp so sound from Sky to plasma will be sorted if you use a 21 pin scart (fully pinned) and for DVD to plasma you will go 2 RCA phone out (audio left and right) via a piar of 2 RCA phone leads.

Hope this helps.

Right in a rush to get away from work.

A/V amp: Home cinema amp multi chanel 5.1 and the like.

A scart plug has has 21 pins that caries all type of signals Some scarts only have certain pins conected. So untill you are really clear on what you want to do get one that has all 21 pins conected. That way all bases are coverd.
