Hi, I bought one of these after reading a short review in What Home Cinema magazine, and I am not disappointed. I took the rash decision to replace my old Ferguson tv and very expensive but unused hifi system on a whim. Luckily the hifi sold for over £1200 on eBay and therefore I was able to buy new tv and the Denon kit. The picture quality is absolutely superb through Sony digital widescreen, and the sound is as good in some areas as the Linn system it replaced. The subwoofer is surprisingly tuneful and the top end clarity is superb. Midrange separation not quite up there with the best though. Only niggle is the cooling fan which comes on when the volume level is set above 45 regardless of actual sound level playing. It can become slightly intrusive.

I have gone for the DHT550sd after much thought, as to the fan noise i contacted DENON regarding this and received the folloeing reply:

Dear Sir / Madam

There are no reported faults with the units regarding the fan noise. When you do turn up the volume you are using more power which will dissipate more heat, the fan will need to come on for obvious reasons. You could have a case when the fan can go faulty and start to make a noticeably louder noise.but this is very rare.

hope this helps
