DVD-R or DVD+R

dayspring (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 29th October 2004, 13:18

I have recentley bought an LG ext. USB dual layer Burner (I think it burns all formats)
But I want to back up one or two of my DVD`s. The problem is i don`t know what is best to buy DVD-R or DVD+R what is the differece is one better for Movies etc?

Also reading other messages some say try this brank and that brank is there a DVD brand that works well on LG burners ?

Are there cheap high street outlets to buy from or do I have to use the internet and pay shipping ?

The burner came with nero can I simply put the DVD in and burn the copy on to 4.7Gb or is it more complicated then that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DS

Not too sure but I believe that the DVD-R format is the best, and certainly cheapest, media to use.
I use Datawrite Yellow 4X DVD-R`s and have not had any problems at all.
Backing up a DVD .
You cannot simply copy a DVD from one drive to the other like a CD, you have to use software specifically designed to RIP the DVD.
Go to http://www.dvdshrink.org and download DVD Shrink.
This will allow you to Back-up your own DVD`s to a 4.7 Gig DVDR by allowing you to remove unwanted soundtracks, extras etc which saves valuable disc space .
The latest version of Shrink includes an option to burn to a DVDR by using Nero.
TBH I have used Shrink for a wee while now and find it extremely easy to use and although others may recommend other utilities this is ideal for us plebs :)
The latest version actually sets up everything automatically so like above, us plebs are well taken care of.
