Best Way to link Panasonic E55 to Panasonic TX36PL32 - Please.
Hi,
Ive just purchased a Panny E55 when my TV decided to go wrong, so I have ordered a CRT panasonic TX36 to go with it, which arrives later this week.
Can somebody give me advice over the wiring options as follows -
1) I understand best signal quality comes from linking TV scart from my Amstrad digibox into the E55 as this outputs an RGB signal - but will I then lose any functionalilty against the alternative AV2 output from digibox to E55. (Automatic clock setting etc). Is the extra picture quality worth this.
2) Will i get a better picture on the TV linking E55 via RGB scart (as recommended in the manual) or component video. ( Threads on here suggest component is best, but the manual contradicts this by recommending RGB scart).
3) I assume component in requires seperate stereo cables to transfer sound to TV if not using an AV amp.
Does anybody have any suggestions for wiring such a setup?
any help would be gratefully recieved

I have my digibox connected from my SKY to my E55 by scart (RGB)
All you lose by using the RGB option is the `direct link` recording function.
You have to revert to good old timer recordings, which are very easy to do on the E55 anyway.
In my view (sic) the picture quality is much better using the RGB option.
As for connecting to your TV.
Provided your TV can accept component and progressive scan,I would use it.
Be daft not to.
Yes you will need to connect more cables for the audio as well.

Thanks for the help Bowfer,
TV acceptscomponent in but not yet sure if its also progressive scan,(or, forgive my ignorance, does component in always allow progressive).
I assume I can link using RGB to allow E55 and TV to talk to each other (Download time date info, direct recording, etc) alongside component for max quality on pre recorded DVDs and switch in the E55s setup option
Losing direct link doesnt sound like a problem if it only affects timer recordings, I suppose this means I have to leave the skybox on the relevent channel and record on AV2.

I don`t think they are mutually inclusive Luffer
For example,I connected my E55 to a TV with component a few weeks ago.
Worked fine until I set the E55 to `progressive`,at which point the picture went haywire.
I think you can have component without progressive, but you can`t have progressive without component.
Know what I mean ?
I stand to be corrected here though.

"I connected my E55 to a TV with component a few weeks ago.

So Bowfer in your opinion does non progressive component still provide a `better` picture than RGB?

That`s a very good question !
I would honestly say no and because progressive scan was out of the equation I unplugged the component cables and reverted back to RGB scart.
You can only try it and see with your own eyes.
I have some component cables going cheap if you want ! :D ;)

"I have some component cables going cheap if you want !"
LOL @ Bowfer
Thanks for the offer, I`ll try it with standard audio cables first before investing in a set of component cables then!

Reading home cinema choice`s review of your TV dated August this year.
They rate it very highly. :D
Looks like it will do progressive scan,so might be worth buying some component cables.
The only thing they say about that is,strangely, the TV does not offer stereo input plugs for getting sound when using component cables.
You still have to connect a scart to the TV`s AV4 to get sound.
Just thought I`d warn you. :/

I assume you have acrobat reader.

Thanks for the link Bowfer.
Im delighted, for once Im getting more than I expected.
Im sure the model I looked at had stereo inputs next to the component in, if not, Ill just have to use my AV reciever more often. (Usually not allowed to use itas the wife claims it tends to wake the kids). :)

Another couple of question...
Component video is just a method of connection, so I can connect via component ands still watch Sky through the E55, but only on progressive with a DVD?
If I have the RGB sky input into the E55, and the E55 connected to the TV via both Scart and Component (Scart offers sound via TV instead of decoder, auto picture sizing etc). The E55 is set for component out. When E55 is switched on it transfers the signal via the component leads but switched off presumably on a pass through via the scart?. Is this scart output RGB as the input from sky is RGB?
