is there a way of setting the speakers for a room so that although the room shape is not perferct you can adjust speaker volume to overcome this.

i have the DENON 550SD comimg next week

With any AV receiver worth its salt you should be able to set the speaker volumes individually. Usually there`s a "test tone" feature which plays a uniform tone through each of the speakers in turn. Sit where you`d normally sit when watching films and adjust the speaker volumes until all the tones reach you at the same volume. Some people even get electronic sound level monitors to help out with this process.

Oh yeah!!!

I just looked on my Yamaha RX530RDS and it has a button marked TEST! IT does exactly as described by sput2001... Cool!!

I also remember that if you have THX you sometimes find a test program on the DVD... I haven`t got THX so it didn`t work on mine!
