Page 1 of DMRE55 - JPEGs
Hardware Forum
I am considering buying a DVD recorder and the DMRE 55 seems to be the favorite, but will it recognise JPEGs which I have created on my PC (on a CD R)?
I am a keen amatuer photographer, so this feature would be nice. I am asking because I kept getting conflicting advice from the staff in Comet and Powerhouse
many thanks,
Jap
God knows, but why not take one of your Jpeg CD-R`s into a shop with you ?
Then say "thanks" and go buy one off the net for less. ;) :D
I would, but none were powered up, or not connected to a TV!!

Then you can go and complain about the in store service the guy wouldn`t give ya because he twigged you were gonna buy it online....
Nowt worse in store when some smart arsed git thinks he can bug ya for info to buy it elsewhere, except when he returns to ask more then slips up to say he`d already bought it online.
And I`ll bet Andy, Emily or anyone else who works front line Retail will concur.
Anyways....dunno about the E55 but if ya wanna email me direct and tell me how you burned them/send a small image file of one or two pics with the setup, I`ll test the E50 for ya.

I was only (half) joking. ;)
I tend to find out info online and use local shops just to see what an item looks like in the flesh, that`s all.
I tend not to waste their time and certainly wouldn`t seek to actively p*** them off.
I`m willing to concede there may well be genuinely interested and knowledgable staff out there, but they (you) tend to be few and far between and,in my experience, some of the bulls*** they will tell you verges from ill-informed to scandalous. :/

You`ll get no arguement from me there...but did you know by claiming it can or will do something, they open themselves up to a later return for their lies? ;)

Funnily enough,yes... ;)
But then they just blame Philips.... :D
According to the instruction manual it does not read picture CDs.
Just copied some of my holiday photos (jpegs) to a CD-RW and tried it in the machine - all I get is a message stating unsupported. (I assume thats the .jpg not the media)
I dont mind being corrected but I dont think the DMRE55 recognises jpegs.
The next model up ( the E65 ) has a PC card slot ( whatever the hell that is ) for jpegs.
Of course, you could just print your photos and stop being so fancy-dan....
;) :D
Recall that my E55 didn`t recognise my jpeg disks either, but I`ll check again - just to be sure. I also bought a Panny S27 for the bedroom (Boots were selling it for £40!) - principally because it will play RAM disks. That incorporates HI-MAT and so not only plays jpeg disks, but gives you thumbnails/slideshow etc. BUT - I don`t really bother because your PC is (probably) much faster and the resolution is better.
