New to this, from reading around choosing a dvd is hard work some have [roblems with certain films even!!!.

This is what i believe i need in a dvd player.

1) Plays all regions (don`t want to pay to have it chipped)
2) Plays music cd`s as well. (mp3 would be nice as well but most dont so not to worried)
3) It is dts, dolby etc etc
4) Plays all films, ive read some dvds have problems with some films like the matrix etc, i dont want to find i have a problem with a film!!

From reading around the best to buy would either be a sony or pioneer ??

Is this correct? looking for something around £200 mark?

TIA

Hi there. I was in your position a couple of weeks ago and I found forums like this very helpful because you get to know what`s good and bad.
After a lot of research (and being very confused by sales assistants saying that it was illegal to sell multi region players in the uk!) I finalyy plumped for the LG 3200E player. I got it for £149.99 from Comet and got 3 dvd discs pack (Gossip, Friends series 7 and the perfect storm)
I
i too wanted a multi-region but from reading the "hacks" section of his website I found out that you COULD (by entering a few numbers in the remote) turn it into a multi region player (I didn`t really want a chipped one).

Anyway I got it and it does work because I palyed a region 1 (RCE) dvd (Cahrlies Angels) and it works absolutely fine.

It also plays audio cds (Ithink it is capable of MP3). It has DTS and dolby and some nice zoom features.

You will probably have loads of people telling you what to buy (and hey I`m one of em!) but I would advise you to read all the reviews in dvdreview (LG got 8/10), read everyfbody`s postings on this forum so you get a fist hand review from dvd player owners.

Hope I have helped a bit.

good luck with your choice and I hope you re very happy with your player.

Joanne

Hi, i bought the Philips 711 and you can`t go wrong. It has a great picture quality for the price (160 quid) plays all DVDs ya throw at it and multi regional via a Oneforall remote. It Plays RCE titles with out a problem and is simple a class player. The CD sound quality is top knotch, after all Philips were part of the team with Sony that Invented CD audio. I`ve had the LG 3200e player and its a good machine. Plays most DVDs apart from a few like Toy Story 2 but that is fixed i think now. Neither of the two players play MP3, but whats ya PC or Mini Disc for? The Philips also has 2 scarts as well if that is helpfull to ya. neither has Dolby Digital built or DTS built in but they both have Digial Out puts to hook up to a AV reciver that can get ya Dolby Digital or DTS. But if ya really want Dobly Digital and ya Hi-Fi has 6 phone inputs ya an get the Samsung 811 from www.unbeatable.co.uk for 170 quid. I also had the Samsung 511 which is basically the same player and that was also hackable via a remote but i found it nosie when playin DVDs, but i good picture.

Hi

The recommendation here appears to be for an LG !?
I have to say it wasn`t my first thought as the manufacure of my dvd player, is there a site that ranks dvd players ?? adn shows you there good and bad etc ??.

The reviews on this site are not very helpful in that way

Many thanks

I`m also thinking of getting the LG 3200, Big W are apparently doing it for £129.99! You could also use Comets price promise to get it from them for about £126, and they may even still include the 3 free DVDs they are currently doing with all their DVD players!
