Are the Sky subscription costs going up soon?
Title says it all really - I`ve heard they might be going up(again!) in January :(
Can anybody confirm this? Also, what will the new prices be? (eg. at the moment it`s £19.50 for the Sky Family package, £41 for everything/Sky World package).
Cheers! :D
RE: Are the Sky subscription costs going up soon?
There`s no mention of anything on Digital Spy which is usually up to date on this kind of thing.
I also hear there are now more Freeview subscribers than Sky ones (so maybe Sky need to cut their rates)
But yeah wouldn`t surprise me, if the rates do go up >:(

Actually I think that Sky may get a few more customers if Telewest does not resolve the problem with Nickelodeon, they have stopped all the Nick channels (good timing with he kids off school). I called them to see what was happening, apparently Nick have increased their fees and Telewest has refused to follow the increase. They still don`t know if they are going to get the channels back. I am a bit cheesed off, because the monthly has not changed to reflect the loss of these channels. I have asked them if they could give us one of the Disney channel until the issue is resolved but they said no.
I was not too sure if I would switch to Sky but now they have given me a good reason to do it.

I wish people would stop moaning abut SKY..
I have their excellent SKY+ downstairs and a normal box upstairs.
All-in it costs me around £45 a month.
£10 a week,basically.
For that I get loads of football, loads of motorcycle sport, loads of music, loads of comedy, loads of documentaries, loads of kids shows for my daughter and loads of other things, all with a quality of picture and sound I couldn`t get otherwise.
I`m not saying it`s all sweetness and light with SKY but the basic product is,when all is said and done, pretty damned good !. :D
RE: Are the Sky subscription costs going up soon?
It was a damn sight better at £10.00 a month, & at that time there was MORE football, Sky one was a thousand times better, & what other channel there were had better programming than the 3 billion channels there are now we NEVER watch. As for movies we`ve had them for over 2 months & have yet to watch ONE movie. The problem is we`ve either seen them or they wouldn`t make a B` movies B`movie. If I`m lucky I get to see one, ONLY one decent football match a week. All that money for NO Movies & ONE football match, is a waste. A lot of the football matches I would like to watch are on the Pay TV. WHAT THE HELL AM I PAYING THE SUBSCRIPTION FOR.
SKY is over 4X more now, wages have not even doubled since the £10.00 days but the quality has gone down. It`s a total rip off. If the first idiots hadden`t payed for those first Boxing matches BOXING WOULD NOW BE FREE, & there would be NO PAY TV. As it is most people have lost interest in boxing. The same could & may happen to football (especially if we all have to tighten our belts) & as for cricket....goodbye.

Erm-I don`t think so-at least two PL games every week, at least 2 FL games every week, plus all the cups, domestic and european..and you think there was `more` when Sky was £9.99 a month ? They didn`t even have any English League football on when it was that price

Sky One was better then than now, but thats as much down to the program providers running their own channels and putting their best stuff on them rather than selling them to Sky. Films, it`s down to personal tastes-I don`t rent films, I rarely go to the pictures, so I`ve no problem finding a dozen or more top line movies, and then I find more that aren`t as well known too.

Well, you must be very picky then-If all the games you like aren`t on the regular channels, then drop the Sports package buy a Prem Plus season ticket instead.

Go to one PL football game, and you`ve spent more than a months sub to Sky Sports, take the family to the movies once, you could easily spend the same as the movie channels would cost you.

No, that was coming-it was basically forced on them from the fight promoters.

Well, Including my NASN sub and my `mirror` sub for my old SKy box, I`m paying £62 a month-I could easily spend that on a night out, and for all of the entertainment all of the family get out of it, it`s great value

But at least you get out of the house and breathe air. ;)

And it was obviously forced onto anyone who wished to see boxing on TV? :/

Is this a quote from one of the Sky adverts? Talk about laugh......I nearly bought a round!! :D

No one `forces` anyone to pay to watch anything-it`s like the old argument people have about `having` to have Sky if they want to watch live league football-as if it was all taken off terrestrial and put onto PAY TV. There was precious little live football shown prior to SKy coming along-ITV had the rights and gave it shocking coverage. In fact, when you look at all the football on non-pay TV now, it far outweighs what was available pre-Sky.
anyway-paying to watch boxing was hardly a new concept, big fights were shown on closed circuit/cinemas for years before PPV came along
RE: Are the Sky subscription costs going up soon?
I wasn`t having a go at Sky in my original post - my question was just a general enquiry as I had heard the prices were rising in January. I actually think Sky is good value for money - especially Sky + (fantastic!!).
I rarely go to the Cinema, and never rent dvds, so there`s always loads to watch on the movie channels - and it`s a lot cheaper than the whole family going to the cinema (petrol, tickets, popcorn etc...). And I also watch a lot of boxing, wrestling, football, tennis etc on the sports channels.
As for PPV - I was one of those "idiots" who paid for some of the first boxing PPVs (Tyson V Bruno 2 was the first I believe). PPV had been in the US for ages and the "powers that be" (Don King etc.) forced Sky to make a choice: show the big fights on PPV or not at all. PPV was always coming - it was just a matter of time. If people didn`t order them, Boxing would not be free now - the big fights would not be on period! I, for one, am glad of having the opportunity to pay a bit extra to watch a big fight - rather than not see it at all (or go to the US and watch it live!). It`s freedom of choice - if you don`t want to watch it or aren`t prepared to pay extra, then just don`t do it!?
