Home Cinema System: LG DAT 200 or the Panasonic SCHT520 ??

Hulk Smash! (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 4th January 2005, 06:35

Hi there! I`m looking for a budget all-in-one home cinema system - I`ve seen the above two advertised at RicherSounds (£119.95 and £179.95). They are both multi-regional and have DTS etc - can anyone recommend which one I should get (or any similar model)? The LG one has built in Free-view aswell (which sounds nice!)...

Bought LG DAT 200 recently (from Richer Sounds £119.95 on web - took printout into shop to get at this price) and I am quite impressed with it. It`s nice to have everything in one box. Sound is quite impressive and has better selection modes for non 5.1 sources than other boxes I have seen. Will play MP3 files from DVD but only in stereo (no sound options available) and uses the old 8.3 filename structure.

Niggles are :

Remote is a bit ugly and very very directional (seen similar comments elsewhere) !!

Freeview is a bit slow at channel changing and due to the number of signals I drag in, needs to be set manually as it has found the poorer quality signals first during the scan.

This is not multi-region out of the box (as inferred in another posting) however the Aiwa XR-DV370KN hack works (like most LG models)

Runs rather warm and has no fans fitted - I think I may rectify this - I would like it to last a couple of years !
