Page 1 of Help....Setup problems!
Hardware Forum
I have a simple collection of units which I`m sure is very common - TV, VCR, DVD and Sky receiver. My question is this...what is the best connection setup that means that Sky is `on` as soon as the TV is turned on (rather than having to press 10 different buttons to get it), and allows me to video terrestial and Sky, and allows me to watch DVDs through the one Scart socket in my TV that has RGB (the other is composite). At the moment I have to switch the Scarts around to allow me to watch DVDs or Sky in RGB.
I`d be interested to know how other users have there basic systems (like mine above) set up to optimise performance.
Cheers!
If your digibox is Panasonic or Pace then you can wire your DVD through your Digibox as they both support RGB passthrough signals. If it`s a Grundig then the following won`t work.
Use a scart from your DVD into ` video ` on your digibox, then another scart from ` to TV ` on your digibox to your TV. This means both are wired into the one scart on your TV without seperate cables. As soon as you press AV1 on your TV remote SKY should come on ( as long as it`s switched on that is.. ). To watch your DVD just press play and the signal should over-ride the SKY signal. If it doesn`t then just put SKY on stand-by.
With regard to the video. I`ve got mine into AV2 on my telly using scart as I very rarely watch video now.
It`s either the above or you buy a 3 way scart adaptor block, but these can be a real pain the ass, so the above is better.
Just noticed your post.
I have connected my equipment like this but I was wondering...
Is there any way to record the pictures & sound from the digibox or DVD connected to AV1 or are you only able to record the terrestial pictures from the TV through scart 2?
This is only a problem sometimes because the wife wants to record SKY stuff so I have to switch scart leads!!!!!!!!!!!
The only other option for me is to connect the DVD player to scart 2 & select S-video on TV & DVD player & leave the SKY box & video on scart 1 using RGB for SKY only!
It really depends on your TV set. Some sets (e.g. Panasonic) allow you to select what is output through SCART 2. Usually, though, it`s whatever is present on the terrestrial tuner.

Well personally, I`ve got no problems with a 3 way Scart adaptor. I have Sky and DVD player (LG3200) on the adaptor through AV2, and video through AV1. (Also have scart lead connecting Sky and video - so no problems recording Sky, while watching DVD, no matter what the switch is on).
The pictures for everything are great - and the adaptor is really easy to use - no problems at all! I just press a switch depending on what I want to watch through AV2 - Sky or DVD.
Hope this helps - I know things can get complicated!!!
