Best DVD player with Progressive Scan (on a budget)?
I`ve recently bought a new TV with component connections and progressive scan. However, my current DVD player (Toshiba SD330E) has component connections but no progressive scan. What is the best DVD player I could get with progressive scan without breaking the bank?
Is it worth it?
Thanks,
DSM

RE: Best DVD player with Progressive Scan (on a budget)?
If your tv has prog scan then you DVD only needs componant conections as you you can not prog scan an all ready prog scaned image. Does that make sence?

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

Ok, if you are using your tv to do pogressive scan then it will not acsept an allready progressivly scaned signal. So you will not need a DVD player that can do progressive scan. If you want to use your DVD players Progressive Scan then you will need to be able to turn off your TV`s Progressive Scan.
I hope this is clearer.

42%er,
Thanks for the advice. I was under the impression that you needed both. You`ve probably saved me a fortune and a row with the Mrs!
Am I right in thinking that the progressive scan only works with the component connection - and not a scart?
Thanks

Real Prog Scan is a componant thing. I know very little about Prog Scan on TV`s and wether it is a prog scan type of thing or not..

RE: Best DVD player with Progressive Scan (on a budget)?
DSM,
Dr49%er`s no doubt well-meaning reply is at best confusing and at worst just plain wrong. (Sorry Dr49%er - not trying to offend ;) ).
If you have a TV that is capable of reproducing progressive scan images, it does indeed need a progressive scan output from your source to do so. Having said that, many TVs can (and do) scale, process and display pretty much anything you throw at them, but to get the best from it you need to provide it with the appropriate source.
It would be best to identify the exact type of input your TV can display (note I used the word "display", not "accept" - many TVs can accept progressive input but cannot display it correctly). Could be 480p, 720p or (extremely unlikely) 1080p.
It might be worth considering the NeuNeo HVD-2081. It has 720p output on Component (or HDMI), DD5.1/DTS Optical/Coax outputs and can upscale normal DVD titles to HD. Take a look here.
There are lots of articles on HDTV on the `net that will put you in a better position when considering equipment - it might be worth spending an hour or two browsing.
Hope this helps.

RE: Best DVD player with Progressive Scan (on a budget)?
I was reading it as the TV has a prog scan board that is being used not that it is a tv that can acsept a prog scan signal. I allways though that if you are using the TV`s own onboard prog scan board then you would just need a componant out DVD player. I did not think you could progressivly scan an allready progessivly scaned signal. If the line stucture has been removed how would you do it again?
No offence taken daKolinic :p
