Page 1 of Hitachi tv problem

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there can help, I cannot remove a code which has appeared across the middle of my tv screen.
The code reads C2846TN31 and appears half way down the screen in white letters.
I am presuming its some kind of serial code but cannot figure out how to remove it.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

That`s the model number,not the serial number.
The TV has,for some reason,reverted back to factory set up mode.
According to the Hitachi problem guide I have,do the following.

Using Remote control,press the two VCR REC buttons together.
The MENU will appear.
Switch off TV at remote onto `stand by`.

Switch back on and everything should be ok.

If that doesn`t work,repeat the above but also switch the TV off using the button on the set itself,and wait for 30 seconds.
