LG DR-4810. Anyone got any opinons about it? Also DVD-R vs DVD+R formats.

I`ve bought an LD DR-4810 but had problems with -RW format. It was an end of line machine. Is it a bit out of date? It was about the cheapest which uses -R disks. +R seems to be taking over, but mainly by the supermarket cheapies. Any opinions welcome.

Had one for over a year now-solid enough, though it`s VERY picky over the RW discs it will use-I tried several brands before sticking with TDK, which it uses flawlessly.

The other problem I`ve had with it is that it won`t record in NTSC format-not a major issue normally, but i do often need to record NTSC satellite feeds.

It`s pretty much just taken the place of my VCR now-picture quality on all three modes is very good-in fact I`d say the picture quality on all modes is the best I`ve come across.

I`ve had the occasional sync problem when using the DVD-VR mode for RW recording, so I tend to stick with DVD-Video-you lose the edit features, but compaibility with other players is better and no sync problems.

Thanks Emily.
I recognise your name from another thread on this machine.
I`m pleased that you have been able to compare picture quality with others. I have only ever used this machine but I can`t tell the difference between the recorded material and the playback.
I`m using it for an analog camcorder and also a digital one. I think machines could vary a lot in the way the digitization is done from an analog source, but probably don`t vary if using the DV input because it should just give an exact copy of the digital data.

I too had the problems others have reported with -RW disks and the whole experience was a nightmare but fortunately this forum helps and I`ll try TDK disks.

I guess the reason I chose it was because the large array of gold plated connectors speaks quality and suggests the rest of the machine justifies them.
