Page 1 of Advice on Dvd recorders
Hardware Forum
Hello there, I am new this forum but have used it before for advice. I am looking for a reasonably cheap but reliable dvd recorder. I will be using it mainly to back up my vhs collection of Formula One races spanning back over 10 years.
I recently purchased a Cyberhome 1600 from ASDA and found it to be untsable and unreliable to record programmes of such length because it overheats about an hour and a half into recording. I returned it and replaced it with another of the same only to find this one wont let me passed the set up page.
Thus im quite irritated by it.
So can anyone recommend a RELIABLE dvd recorder, mainly for vhs back up that can cope with long recordings? and is quite cheap say about £100ish
while im here will the type of discs im using affect the stability of the recording? im using dvd+r`s.
Thanks.

RE: Advice on Dvd recorders
Hi
you can`t go far wrong with the lite-on machines....you can get a 5006b at the
moment for around £120 which will record onto DVD±R/RW or the 5002 for
about £90 - £100 which will record onto DVD+R/RW.
both are made easily region free and can also be made macrovision free via a
easily followed firmware upgrade.
have a look at this website:-

the site requires registration, but it`s free and there`s loads of info on there.

I have been using Bulkpaq dvd+r s. Are there any discs that i should be using instead? Are these ok?
alesi95 :)
Another great bonus of the 5005/5006 is that you can create audio CD`s.
I use my 5005B to record radio shows from BBC7 via the Sky+ box to blank audio media.
Hancock/Dads Army/Radio Active etc all recorded for my enjoyment :)
Choagy FFCUK the SPL :)
For a reliable and quality machine you should stick to names like Panasonic ,Pioneer,Toshiba etc.
The DVD+ format is almost exclusive to the cheap nasty machines from supermarkets.
With a £299 HDD model from Pioneer or Panny you can perform sophisticated editing way beyond the likes of Liteon etc

yes you`re right, but the op didn`t ask for recommendations for a £300 recorder either.

The Panasonic DMR ES10 is an excellent recorder that you can get for 150 quid on the internet. it may be 50 quid more, but it is worth your money. yes it can record dvd+r

He may not have asked for a £300 recorder, but he wants something reliable.
You get what you pay for.
And if any editing is needed,a dvd only recorder is a joke.
And for a reliable HDD/DVDR,its £300.
