Problems with Sky Plus and PIN number...
Ever since my SkY Plus "rebooted" itself a few weeks a go (ie. for the new lighter on-screen design and features), I`m having problems with the PIN number. Well not really problems - but it`s just very annoying!
On some programmes (it can be anything), it asks me to enter the PIN number before I can watch - I keep checking and all the PIN restrictions etc. are off, as always. What`s worse, I was playing/watching a movie the other night (well at about 2:30am), and about half an hour into it, it suddenly goes off - then the screen comes up asking me to enter my PIN number!! >:(
It`s just getting really frustrating...

RE: Problems with Sky Plus and PIN number...
Hulk :)
I had to contact Sky last week about this PIN nonsense and it seems that the current updated version of the OS has caused tremendous problems for thousands of users.
The problem is so great that when calling Sky one of the first options is "Having trouble with your PIN " .
To coin a phrase "You are not alone" :)

I think its been set so that you have to enter a PIN if you try to watch a film outside its normal broadcastable hours (eg an 18 film in the middle of the afternoon).
Unfortunately they haven`t allowed this option to be switched off, and it is very annoying when there are no children in the house to worry about. Hopefully they`ll update the software again soon, as I don`t fancy spending half an hour on the phone to find out what my PIN is.
RE: Problems with Sky Plus and PIN number...
Another update (a complete reform of the EPG and channels) is on its way in the next month or so. The new EPG background and features are just part 1 of the update so far (or so I have read).
To be fair, the EPG only requests a PIN when a recorded programme has been given a certificate (e.g. 15) during the day (before 8 pm). But I agree, this feature should be optional.
The PIN request feature seems quite pointless to an extent as the majority of programmes are not rated. If Sky wants to offer greater protection perhaps a system of rating TV programmes should be brought in like they have in the U.S. ("TV PG" etc).

Adam :)
Another problem Sky+ owners have been bombarding Sky with, according to an "Expert" :) I called at the Sky+ helpline today, is that an increasing number of Sky+ owners are having difficulty with rewinding/pause etc.
Apparently the latest F/W-S/W update has caused a fair few problems for a large number of users. As a result the geeks are looking in to a solution/remedy for all current problems.

Yes, I am those thousands of users and I too am being pestered by this problem.
Didn`t help that I couldn`t remember my PIN :$
Luckily my 12 year old could :o
But it is annoying.
Can`t trust it to record something when we`re out now.
What use is that?
I can feel a few months` free subscrption is called for ;)
Ps. The bit about my 12 year old is not exactly true....
.....he had to ask his little sister.
RE: Problems with Sky Plus and PIN number...
The PIN is always the last 4 digits of your viewing card number, unless you have previously changed it for some reason-then you`re f***ed

It is possible to have Sky reset the PIN. But to do so you first need to wait about an hour to get through to Customer Service :)
RE: Problems with Sky Plus and PIN number...
I am amazed - I decided to give Sky+ customer services a try as I want to watch an 18 film. It just took me around 2 minutes to get the number from customer services :)
My number came from a card when I first signed to Sky years ago -this has since been replaced with a different card on the old box, and I`ve moved to Sky+ with a totally different card number.
I am also impressed that my memory of a number that I have not used for over 3 years just had 2 digits the wrong way round!
