Page 1 of URGENT SCANNER HELP PLEASE
Hardware Forum
Finally convinced the other `alf that I must have a scanner. Now the next problem, what one do I get.
I want to scan 35mm photos & slides and possibly negatives. I like the look of the Epson range P2480/P2580 but have seen PC world do the P3490 for £60. Would appreciate any advice on which one to get. Must strike now before she changes her mind.
Anyone know any discount codes for PCworld
Any one know if trackballs are any good. Limited space makes using a mouse awkward
I use a Microsoft trackball at home and have done for several years. Can take a little getting get used to but a very good alternative to a traditional mouse.
Funnily enough I`ve just come back from Aldi and they had what looked a decent scanner in the `specials`. It was £50 and comes with the transparency hood (for scanning negative, slides etc). Sounds just the thing you`re after.
As for trackballs, I used a Logitech Trackman Marble FX for a number of years, very good. It was like a large pool ball you rolled with your hand, I don`t think they do it now. I tried the ones where you work it with your thumb and they don`t half make your thumb ache after a while.
The only thing which made me switch the the Logitech MX700 cordless rechargable mouse I use now, was that the trackball was hard to use playing games where you controlled the characters movement with the mouse. But for normal PC stuff it was great.

I play games on my trackball using my mouse and have no problems at all and I play FPS games. My thumb doesnt hurt either.
If you go to PC World they normally have the mice out so you can try them out for feel and size.
