Philips DVD R80 - is it really pants ?
I bought a Philips DVD R80 a couple of years back and have had nothing but problems with it - both Philips and the supplier singularly reluctant to help. I paid a tenner to get the machine multi-region when I bought it - this now seems to have packed up. I`ve seen the hack for the Philips DVD-750, which appears to be a similar model, but does anyone have or could confirm this will work with the R80 ?
Also, I have a Goodmans X pro (why do I keep buying naff machines ????) - anyone got a hack for making this multi region too ?

is it really pants ?
i think you answered your own question there :)
look, i Really don`t want to sound like a fanboy, but go & buy a panasonic, in general they seem the most reliable of all the recorders, just do a search of these forums for info.

You bought a philips, fuuuhuuner. Really? Buy a Pana.
All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
The standard Philips hack should work with the R80. The early 880 series had major problems but the R70/R80 series were generally ok. What problems are you having with the machine apart from the region hack? Sometimes it`s down to the quality of the disc used though I can confirm that the Panasonic (any Panasonic) is an infinitively more reliable and flexible recorder.
