Page 1 of Need help choosing a DVD Player.

Hi, I`ve decided on getting a DVD player for Christmas and need help choosing the right one.

Basically, I`m after one that will play DivX discs among most formats, able to make region free and quite cheap.

I`ve been into Asda and Tesco for a look, but could only see two decent looking ones;

Phillips DVP3005
Technika DVD105

Out of these two, which would you say is more suited? Also, are there any other fairly cheap DVD players in somewhere like Curry`s or Woolworths?

Does that Phillips DVP3005 feature DivX Playback do you know? I`m currently leaning towards that one, but if there are any others DVD Players that will play DivX and other formats, along with having a region free hack, feel free to mention them.

Lidl had a Targa 5.1 surround sound system last week that not only plays Divx but has an RDS tuner built in (AM/FM).Your local store may have a few left so have a wee swatch.
The set costs £100 so is quite dear but you do get an excellent system that plays MP3/ WMA/ Divx plus a three year warranty.
Not too shabby in my mind mate.

try richer sounds, they do some very good prices on top named equipment.

Sadly I don`t think they have one in the town I live (Wrexham, North Wales), and I`m not sure if I`m going to be able to find time to go into somewhere like Chester or Liverpool to hunt one down. :(

However, I`m off into town in a few minutes and I`m going to have a look in Curry`s and Comet. If I can`t find one there, I think I`ll go with the Phillips, as it doesn`t look that bad at all.

Also, regarding the Lidl surround system, it looks like a great price, but I don`t think I or my parents would be able to find the extra £60 to spare so close to Christmas, already bought a fair amount of stuff and still a decent amount of presents to buy for others. :p
