Problems connecting TV to NTL Box to DVD Recorder

Chyno (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th December 2005, 02:16

Hey there,
I recently got a Goodmans DVD Recorder (Model GHDD177DVDR) and I`ve been trying to connect them so that I can record stuff off what I`m watching on NTL but I cannot get all 3 successfully connected. The diagrams in the help manuals call for 2 scart ports on my TV but I only have 1. Is there any way of getting them connected?

sounds like you need a scart selector, argos do a good one for about £15 connect that to the tv then plug all the other stuff into that,

ie, ntl scart & rf out into the dvd recorder input, then loopthrough with the rf to the tv & connect the recorders scart output into the scart selector,

actually you can do all that without the selector, so it sounds like your not tuning the tv to the correct source, plug it all in like i said, & make sure the dvd recorder is connected directly into the tv.

so it should connect like this

from the ntl box into the dvd recorder then the dvd recorder into the tv, do this without connecting the ariel (rf) to anything, just use the scart input/outputs, once you have that sorted & can record the signal, re loop the rf throughout the system & start tuning the rf channels.

i`m sorry i didn`t explain that as well as i`d like :) but i`m in a rush :)

post again later to let us know if you got it done :)

you might want to add in a scart selecter anyway, it`ll come in handy if you ever wanna add a games console or second dvd player into the mix :)

I`ve done the same with my proline dvd700, i.e, scart from ntl box to dvdr, scart from dvdr to tv. But when i try to scan channels in all i get is a fuzzy inset screen. Is like the reception is going through ok to the tv but the dvdr can`t recieve it. what am i doing wrong?

are you looping your rf (ariel) into the ntl box, then to the recorder & out of the recorder into the tv ? if so it should work.

Sorry to ask again but a problem has occured

I can`t record several of the ntl channels and other times I can record a channel one time and it plays back okay then I record again and I only get audio

Is there a guide to tuning all the rf channels because I don`t know if I did it right

........I feel so useless lol

if it works sometimes then not others i would imagine it`s a form of copy protection, which channels is it happening on ?

ah, all of those are occasionaly protected (yes, even the sci-fi channel) i know this cos ocasionaly my panny dmr-e30 won`t record them either, just sometimes, dunno why, but i think a lot more sky channels are gonna go that way, in a way i think thats one of the reasons sky+ is being pushed so hard (i have sky, not ntl)
