Not sure I know what I am talking about, I have the above dvd drive in my computer and can only play region 1 discs..
Does anybody know if it can be changed to play region 2 discs..?

Any help is much appreciated, also what is the firmware..?

Looking forward to understanding more.

OK

ATI DVD Player = Software you use to control the DVD Drive you have in your PC.

It can be `hacked` (modified is a better word for it) to play any region using a program called DVD Genie - available from:-

http://www.7thzone.com.

BUT.....

The type of DVD drive you have and it`s controlling software (called firmware cos it`s basically a program permanently stored on a chip on the drive electronics) is also a factor. Most modern drives are region-locked in firmware i.e. they can only play R2. This can usually be modified to any other region, but only for a fixed number of changes usually 5 times. After your fifth changeover, your stuck for life with the last region you used. Such drives are known as RPC-2 drives or `region locked`. Most drives can be changed by `copying` (usually called `flashing`) a new firmware program to the drive and making it RPC-I or `region free`. Again look at 7thzone for info. There is also a program called `Drive info` which will tell you what your drive is - e.g. Pioneer and if it is RPC-1 or RPC-2 (Device manager in Win9x Operating systems will also tell you the make of the drive).

goto the following website

perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware

you may be able to obtain hacked firmware for your DVD player.
I succesfully hacked my RPC2 drive using firmware and help from the site.
