Humax PVR Problem
Some of you might remember that you gave me some good advice on PVRs (gift for my parents). Anyway plumped for a Humax 9200t in the end, it does exactly what we want, but seems to have a problem.
It freezes up every so often, remote/standby doesn`t work and the clock stops, the only cure is to switch it off at the mains.
I can`t get thru` on the helpline and their web site isn`t displaying. Does this sound like a software fault?Any ideas? I need advice quickly as I need to sort it out for my mum before I return home tomorrow evening.
Many thanks

The only digital device I have ever owned that has not frozen up sometime or another and needs the mains switching off to reset it is my Panasonic E55 DVD recorder ,two other DVD recoders and both my freeview boxes do it now and again, I always relate it to overheating problems caused by bad design, just make sure the unit as a bit of space round it to let the air flow. :)

Have a look at the Humax forum here:
http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/
The 9200T recently had an over the air software update. This might have helped

RE: Humax PVR Problem
Cheers all,
I`ve received a reply from Humax and yes, there should have been a software update which would fix the problem.
Unfortunatley we`ve missed it and it`s not being broadcast again until the 17th. I can download it from the pc, but need a RS 232c serial connection, which Mum`s laptop doesn`t have, apparently updates can`t be transferred via USB.
To top it all, I`ve now got an error message E-O5 (or maybe S?), which isn`t listed on the Humax site......guess I`ll be calling them back in the morning.
Will also check the sites that you`ve reccomended - thanks :)
Hi
I have a 9200T and yes the update does seem to have fixed it for me.
I also got the E-OS error, the cure was to do a factory reset on the 9200 before doing the OTA (over the air) update.
A popular theory is that freezes only occured on MHEG channels, so until you are able to obtain the OTA update, I suggest you leave the box on Channel 5 whilst not watching the TV.
Hope this helps

RE: Humax PVR Problem
Hi, thanks for that DD. I did the reset before I left Mums, picked the info up from one of the previously mentioned forums.
The Humax seems to be getting worse - Mum is frequently missing recordings due to freeze ups , I`m trying to advise her over the phone which is a little tricky ..... Just about to check the Humax site as she thinks the update should have been last night but nothing has happened.
DD - When you got your update, was there a message on startup to say that new software had been downloaded?
Also when you say leave on CH5, do you mean don`t leave it on standby?
Cheers
RE: Humax PVR Problem
Well, we`ve just managed to update it! So I guess we`ll have to see how it goes....
Found the site listed below v. helpful as it gives details of all the times and dates of OTA download transmisions, Humax didn`t even have this info on their site.

Thanks once again.
Hi allmyusernamesweretaken :-)
Glad you got it sorted, and thanks for the other URL. V useful.

RE: Humax PVR Problem
Just one more question (until next time!).......
Taping two channels, whilst watching a third channel - Sometimes it is possible, but it depends on what the third channel is. Can anyone explain how this works? A cursory Google search suggests this is due to multiplexes, but I can`t seem to find out how to work out which channels are grouped together, so I can plan in advance.
Many thanks (again)
