Rowa DVD280 widescreen problems

andypmoore (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 19th September 2001, 07:30

I bought I Rowa DVD280 from asda at the weekend and when I use the scart socket and connect it to my Philips widescreen TV the player kept switching the TV bewteen 16:9 and 4:3 every few seconds. I took it back to asda and replaced it but this one seems to do the same.

I`ve tried different scart cables (4 of them) incase the problem was there. The setup option is set to 16:9 for display.

Has anybody else had this problem because apart from that I seems great value for money.

Cheers

I`m assuming you`ve tried eliminating the TV as the problem ?
Have you tried the other AV2 scart on your TV ?
Does SKY, if you have it, stay on 16:9 without any problem ?
Is your TV set on Auto ? If you manually put it onto 16:9 does it still do it ?
If you`ve tried 2 players I`d be looking at the TV as the problem. Best way to make sure is to take the player round to a mates. I thought there was a problem with my toshiba 210 when I first bought it, but when it played fine on a mates TV I took advice off this forum and found the problem was that I was looping the DVD through my Digibox. Connecting it straight to the TV ended the problem.

I do have SKY and have no problems at all with that. It keeps the picture is whichever mode it should be in.

I`ve tried both AV1 & 2 from the TV, both have the same problem.
I`m going to try taking my dvd player to my parents and try it through their tv to try to eliminate the TV as the problem.

Thanks for the advice
