R1 1.1:85 disk problems on widescreen TV...........

hullmackem (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 24th October 2001, 13:58

anyone have picture problems with region 1 dvd`s in this ratio??

The picture goes all distorted at the top, on the simpsons for example the black lines are not straight at the top of the 4:3 picture.

1.2:35 films seem to play OK but flicker sometimes in the top left corner.

Is this common or is it just me??

TV - Hitachi 28" widescreen
DVD - Proline DVD 2000

Skewed lines and flickering at the top of the picture are common issues with Macrovision. Do you have your player hooked directly to the TV, or looped through a VCR?

It could be simply that your TV is very sensitive to Macrovision in 60Hz mode. Have you tried it with a different TV?

If it`s any consolation, this is very common. Macrovision is crap, but the studios don`t care if they bugger up your picture quality so long as you can`t copy their stuff. The solution is to get a Macrovision remover or "chip" your player to make it Macro free.
