NTL Digibox and DVD Recorder Connection

Lovecatz (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 2nd December 2006, 15:18

I have just bought a DVD recorder but it requires the NTL ariel cable to be plugged into it. Our NTL ariel is a screw in but the DVD recorder requires a plug in. Being a girlie I am clueless how I get roung this so any suggestions would be greatfully received :)

Hi

the aeriel connector on the dvd recorder is a bog standard RF input.

on your NTL box, you should also have an RF input & output so that the
box can show terrestrial channels (BBC / Channel 5 etc).

the easiest way to get it to work is to have the outdoor aerial (not the screw in
co-ax) going to the RF in on the NTL box, then have another length of RF cable
going from the NTL RF out into the dvd recorder RF in.

finally, have the connect another RF cable from the dvd recorder`s RF out
connected directly to the TV`s RF in.......easy eh?

this will allow you to tune the dvd recorder to record terrestrial channels as well
as the digital ones when you have the two devices connected by scart.

........is that gasoline i smell?

If its just a case of wanting to put a screw in type connector into a normal aerial socket, just by an adapter, one end has a thread the other an ordinary TV aerial connection.
You screw the end into the cable leaving the aerial connector to go into your DVD recorder.
Simple.
Not sure of the long winded reply above.

I got some the other day out of Homebase..

£1.97, 99p online but you will have P&P.

Just realised why the long winded thread, good idea. ;)

Get some SCART cables. It makes more sense and you get a better picture.
The cable with the screw end is not a regular ariel cable, its NTL Digital, you should only ever plug that into your NTL Box.
Then SCART is preferable NTL>DVD>TV, but you can do it with normal ariel cable if you want.
