Does anyone know of any dvd players that are multi-region straight out of the box and is cheap. My mothers after one, shes got my old Samsung 709 upstairs which is about 7-8 years old now and its knackered. I got her an Alba dvd player last year from Argos and it was multi-region straightaway (I forget the exact model). Any info much appreciated.

Do you have a Richer Sounds near you?

their multi region players are either multi region out of the box, or are (or at least used to be) boxed with a piece of paper which tells you how to make it multi region, if a remote hack.

I know some-one who bought a Sony from Amazon that was multi region.

To be honest it`s easier just to look in today`s paper and look at the cheapo players in the sales (or even just get the Argos catalogue) and then have a quick scan in the multiregion hacks section, they are all in alphabetical order so it won`t take any time at all.

The hacks are really easy you know. The only thing I`ve ever had to do on any players to hack them is press eject, and then something like 3,3,4,0 on the remote (or another small combination of numbers), and that`s it unlocked.

That is what I am finding here in the States, you have to just shop around on the internet sites of various electronics stores for the dvd player you want and just google the hack codes.

I am still puzzled why it still feels like it is slightly illegal to purchase multiregion dvd players here in the US.

What I am ending up doing is making non region code copies of dvds. That way I can play all my dvds on anything. Also I travel a lot and not having to worry about losing my discs is a great load off my mind. Weight restrictions often force me to stow most of my discs in the checked luggage. I guess that`s what I get for flying economy. I can`t justify paying more for a seat which will hit the ground first when the plane crashes :D
