I am fairly new to the DVD thing and am looking at getting either a DAVS500 or DAVS800 for my lounge to replace my seperates and give me a DVD player at the same time.
I would like any info/opinions anyone has on either of these systems?
Also, Is purchasing a multi-region player that much more beneficial than a standard player?
Thanks
Mike
PS Also, I have heard a lot of negative things about Techtronics. What suppliers are good? What are unbeatable like?

I assume by the fact that you want to replace your separates that you want an "all in one" solution. Don`t forget that it will be less upgradeable, and probably won`t sound as good as well selected separate components of the same value. However, the DAVS500 got product of the year in the What Hifi Home Cinema in a Box category this year, so it`s probably no slouch.
Re multiregion - DEFINITELY - you will kick yourself if you don`t - films often come out on USA (Region1) DVD at the same time as they are released in the cinema over here, Region4 (Australia etc) has some fantastic bargains - how does Crouching Tiger plus Gladiator 2 disc collectors edition for £18 or so delivered sound? It will be much more expensive to convert to multiregion afterwards, so do it when you buy your player.
If you going to get a Multi Region machine why not go the whole hog and get something that allows the user to turn off Macrovision, Might come in usefull in the future!
