New Recorder Generation LG RH2000 series
2007-02-14 ... 2007-02-15

Hello nicodocet,

Thanks again for the brandnew information about new LG RH2000 series recorder generation:

Best information on Hungarian LG page (RH265/266, RH277H/278H) including OpManuals:
http://hu.lge.com/proddivergent.do?c...05&parentId=03

Operational Manual RH277H/278H in English and German: (Details in http*.PDF)
http://de.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp

Interesting LG AV and DVD-Rec catalogues 2006 + 2007 on:
http://hu.lge.com/products/mobile/mo...05&parentId=03

In catalogue AV 2007 you can find model numbers up to 298/299 (max 400GB), for RH (AVB-T), RHD and RHT (DVB-T) or RC (DVD + VHS) models (tables with techn. data on pages 54 to 57).

I took following assesments by OpManuals RH277H/278H. Manuals for higher models could not be found.

LG writes, what is not possible as COPY FAST. They do not clearly write, what is possible.
May be that COPY FAST of unedited titles from HDD to DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW VM is possible, but that is nothing.
My favourite format is DVD-RW VR or with upgraded recorder even DVD-RAM.
I do not trust LG statement, neither in OpManual nor in datasheet. I only believe what I can grip with my own hands ...
And when I compare LG´s statements with my own COPY FAST tests (dvdboard.de), my tests say that even on RH1000 series LIMITED COPY FAST was possible.
Only new LG public relation words in OpManual about same old behaviour.

In OpManual they write, that COPY FAST only from DVD VR, i. e. DVD-RW VR, to HDD shall be possible.
Then they write that COPY FAST is not possible from edited title on DVD-RW VR to HDD.
That is exactly what we have on RH1000 series recorders or lower. Business as usual! Alter Wein in neuen Schlaeuchen!

So, I assessed COPY FAST as LIMITED in OPLAb.

Whether it is possible to copy a list of up to 10 titles, we shall have a look on it ...

Then we have to observe, if AUTO really means a kind of JUST FIT copying.
According to catalogue AV 2007 page 54 there shall be an AUTO/Just Fit function for models above RH27x. It is intended for Timer Recording mode onto DVD.

For Dubbing from HDD to DVD there shall be an OPTIMIZED COPY, which determines quality level XP, SP, LP, EP according to source record size and free capacity of DVD.

And why I really dislike new RH2000 series generation is the fact, that no S-Video Input is offered, not in got known models RH265 ... RH278H. So you can not produce high quality DVD copies from your existing S-VHS or Hi8 cassettes, mainly private videocamera records, not from copyright protected records.

The new USB "only" 1.1 input instead of a Memory Card Reader is pretty nice but it can not compensate the lack of missing S-Video Input. I should really like a real bidirectional digital input/output for data transfer between LG recorder and PC.

MPEG2/4 recording at higher model numbers we are used from RH1000 series top models.

LG`s return to front buttons is very nice - the only real progress!

In summary: RH2000 series is not recommendable!, it is no real alternative to actual RH1000 series! RH 1000 prices will decrease, so it is a better advice to buy a low price RH1000 model and to upgrade it by OP Code modification.

!!! All above mentioned arguments are my personal and private assessment and opinion, they are no call for boykott against LG or anywho else! They are only the expression of my deepest disappointment, that entertainment electronics industry persistently disregards the interests of their customers, the buyers of their products. Customer satisfaction, that´s a strange word !!!

Some key details from new LG RH2000 series recorders you will find in OPLab under REC Details.
