About to play with the big boy.

The original 42pcenter MD (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 11th December 2001, 11:17

Hello all,

To day I will be mostly setting up the Onkyo TX-DS989 Integra A/V Receiver (£2749.95) and the DV-S939 Intergra DVD player. (£1999.95)

This should be fun.

I will keep you posted.

All the best,

Andrew.

2 grand for a DVD player. Why? why? why? No, really...why? I just don`t get it. The lens used to shoot the film probably cost half that...and the desk that the sound was mixed on probably got change too. ha!

Hello.

Do you drive? If so what do you drive?

What make af watch do you wear and how much did it cost?

Do you eat Heinz backed beans or own brand?

Please let me know and I will try to put a £2000 DVD in perspective.

All the best,

Andrew.

P.s: Fun,fun,fun.

ha! you want the truth?

- `D` Reg Volvo 340
- Tesco value (more juice)
- A watch from Poland that says something in Russian on the front with a picture of a submarine.

Maybe those were the wrong questions. But I thought you`d like a laugh.

Now I understand quality and reasons why you would want to invest in quality. But £2k for a DVD player is something I can`t appreciate. If you start spending that much money on A/V kit I assume you have redesigned the room you watch films in too to give you the ultimate watching/listening experience?

Ok I asked for that.

The first thing to remember is that you are not going to put this with a 21" matsui tv (no offence to owners of this product) It is normally going to be put with a projector or plasma. If the DVD player is not up to the job it will be ripped apart when you magnifiy the picture. You don`t put remolds on a Astin Martin. All so the sound is superb with CD and DVD/A.

Is this player better than the £1000 Arcam DV88? Yes. Is it a £1000 better? For some people yes the small differance is worth every penny, for others not.

If you are spending £20,000 on a home theater would you put a £100 DVD player with it?

I know you will proberly never be conviced about a £2000 DVD and I understand that but if you ever get the chance to see one going give it a go you may be suprised.

All the best,

Andrew.

P.s Are the beans that much nicer.

I`m with Abraham here - Tesco value beans are pretty good!
Andrew, I just hope for your sake you get all this kit on sale or return - glad I`m in a business where I don`t need to invest in a load of stock!

No it`s not sale or return. So we have to be pretty confident it is as good as the price tag.

As for boasting, well I supose I am a bit, sorry. But as a "Dolby Freak" I thought you may be interested in what it was like. Bloody good by the way.

All the best,

Andrew.
