I would recommend the Yamaha RXV420 receiver from Richer Sounds at £214.95 and the Yamaha NSP220 speaker and sub set for £135.45 from www.qed-uk.com. These speakers are amazing for the money. I have two sets of these at the moment and have no worries in recommending them to other people. If you could increase your budget a slightly, then go for the Yamaha DPSAX620 amp from Richer Sounds (£289.95) as this is sensational (and was voted best buy in the What Hifi awards this year).

Neill is giving good advice there - I thnk you will get better life out of a pair like that rather than an all in one like the Yammy VS10, although that would be a good alternative if you want something a little more compact. Apparently the 420 shares the chipset of the 620 (but slightly less powerful amps), so don`t get too upset if you don`t stretch to the 620. The 420/NSP220 combo is available as a package called the HTiB-40 - this won a WHF award this year for best home cinema in a box up to £500. This package may be available cheaper than the components - have a look around (alkthough just checked qed and it`s £381).
