Need help with Home Cinema System

TIGALAD (Competent) posted this on Monday, 14th January 2008, 16:51

Hi Guys n Gals, Wondering if some of you can advise and help.

Ive now got a PS3 and a HD TV. I want to get the Best sound out of the set up, at the cheapest price possible.

What sound system should i be looking to buy. Is it still 5.1 or is it something else???

Also i hate wires so looking to get wireless speakers etc...

Can people advise me of the Best set up i can get for the cheapest cost... or advise me of what set up you use, that gets great results...

Cheers in advance...

I`ve taken this from another site:

Audio output on the PLAYSTATION®3 system
The supported channels may vary depending on the output connector used.

NOTES:

Audio from a Super Audio CD cannot be output from the digital out (optical) connector. Multi-channel content from Super Audio CDs can only be output from the HDMI OUT connector.
A device compatible with Linear PCM 7.1 Ch. is required to output 7.1 Ch. audio from the HDMI OUT connector.
This system does not support output from the DTS-HD 7.1 Ch. DTS-HD 7.1Ch audio is output from a 5.1 or lower channel.

There was a table which hasn`t copied over. Basically, using a digital optical lead, you get 5.1 audio, and using the HDMI lead, you can get 7.1 LPCM audio from SACD discs (shouldn`t think you`d need that).

I can`t really recommend any systems - that`s down to your budget etc, although I wouldn`t recommend wireless speakers - remember, they aren`t really wireless, because they need to be plugged into the mains! You can run speaker wires down the corners of rooms and along skirting boards and cover them with white trunking, and you soon forget about them! ;)

If you want HD audio you need an amp that supports HDMI 1.3. Check out Onkyo amps (I think the 605 starts at around £400). The PS3 isn`t the best when it comes to HD audio because it has no analogue outs and you can`t use HD audio over S/PDIF.
