Page 1 of Need help changing Philips DVD 622 from NTSC to PAL

Hi all,

I just bought Philips 622 DVD player, which seems to be permanently set to NTSC. This is fine on my main TV which can playback NTSC. However, my surround sound stereo is in another room alongside a cheaper TV. On hooking DVD up, got jittery picture (but great sound!!). Consulted the manual and discovered that I had to change DVD player to PAL. Followed instructions to the letter & changed to PAL. However, DVD player seems to automatically revert to NTSC. I`ve tried this umpteen times, but to no avail. I think there may be an instruction missing.

Instructions in manual are:

1. Unplug DVD
2. Pressing STOP & FF together, plug back in
3. When PAL/NTSC displayed, press FF to change setting

Has anyone come across this before and/or knows the solution? Any help greatly appreciated!

1.unplug dvd from the mains
2.press and hold stop and ff on the front of the dvd player while holding stop and ff plug in the mains
3.after pal or ntsc appears on the display panel of the dvd player release stop and ff at the same time.the pal or ntsc that appears on the display panel indicates the current setting.
4.to change the setting press ff within 3 seconds.the new setting pal or ntsc will appear on the display panel.

Will this also work with the Philips 730?

I have managed to change my 622 from NTSC to PAL but I am still getting a bad picture

To the first reply - those are the instructions in the manual that I said I followed, but thanks anyhow!

I haven`t tried again since, but I think I know the reason for the bad picture. On reconnecting to my main TV, had similar problems, where before all was well! After about 30 mins of checking connections, scratching head, cursing/swearing and contemplating hitting DVD player with a lump hammer, Eureka!!!! The mistake was mine and a fantastically stupid one it was too! I had assumed the scart lead was reversible, but oh, no, there is an end for DVD and end for TV which were connected the wrong way round! Doh! I assume/hope that will solve my initial problem. Will keep you posted...
