Philips 24PW6005@ 24" WideScreen - Colour staining/ghosting
Hi,
After buying above TV with Sky Digital in Oct 2000, just noticed that
when playing Interactive games on SKY (e.g. beehive bedlam) the
TV appears to lose its colour depth from right of the screen and growing
towards middle -so it distorts the colour of the games. When I exit
the game you see like a green patch on right of screen which then
fades. It only slowly reappears when playing SKY interactive games. Normal programme viewing is fine.
Any help with this query would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon
anyone got any ideas ........sounds like a faulty digi box 2me
DM
It sounds like a purity fault try turning the contrast down a bit in the sky digi box and tv it that doesn`t cure it try playing the game less!!!

RE: Philips 24PW6005@ 24
hi jon
i have the 28PW6006 and i get exactly the same problem but it occurs intermittently even during viewing programmes or during STB (set-top box)menus. this is so bad now it is highly annoying - it is becoming a pain and i would appreciate any feedback you give.
i have itv digital STB and i have had the original Nokia 8850 box replaced with a Phillips DTX 6732 but the problem has persisted. it was suggested to me that the STBs give off a higher lever of EM radiation when displaying text/game functions than just viewing channels - changing the box seems to suggest that the boxes are not at fault.
personally i think the phillips tube is not shielded properly or there is a fault with the RGB/SCART inputs. how far is the STB from the tube? (i assume you have positioned the STB under the tv - like most people do)
turning the tv back to standby and then on again sometimes works as most tubes auto-degauss when powered up.

Unfortunately a lot of TV`s are getting these purity problems it is alot to do with cheap manufacturing and these flat screens in my 15 years in the tv trade in the last 4 years I have seen more tube faults than in my past 11 not just one manufacturer all Sony,Phillips, etc etc they are all genrally crap very poor picture. Out of all the major makes I would rate Toshiba they always manage to get a good picture.

And we take it you have not got any large unshielded speakers next to your TV.
RE: Philips 24PW6005@ 24...problem`s now got worse
Bear, Ravi,
Correct, I have no speakers next to TV, only an AIWA VCR and the
Panasonic digibox. Also, yesterday I noticed that for the first time
the "reddy" (sorry I know I said green before - but its green on the game
and then the ghost/stain is red) stain/shadow appears intermittently
when watching normal programmes.
I think a call to Curry`s customer services is in order along with
some banter about Sale of Goods Act, not fit for purpose and all
that. (I got it in Oct 2000 and Curry`s store said they would charge
me to repair it since its past 12 months).
Thanks for all of the help so far and keep it comin...youre expertise
is much appreciated.

ps I`ve also got a 5 year CRT warranty with Philips but I would have to
pay for labour.
Hi w,
I too have now noticed that it happens during viewing normal programmes
(happened yesterday). Did yours occur within warranty period? As I`m sure mine probably did but I didnt recognise it as a prob until two months after 1 year warranty ran out (with Currys). I also have a 5 year warranty
for the tube but would have to pay labour costs which I would like to
avoid.
I am thus gonna contact Currys first and deal them the "Sales of
Goods Act" and "not fit for purpose" lines and if that doesnt get them
to replace it I will write to Philips and give them some hassle too as the
TV`s only 14 months old! I`ll keep you posted on progress and responses.
Regards,
Jon
Fortunately I only bought the set in September (or October) and I have the stick of not having finished paying for it on Interest Free Credit.
Why not use a printout of the forum to add weight to your case that this is obviously a quality problem from Phillips and they (as the retailer) are liable - even if the product is out of warranty with the manufacturer.
Sale of Goods Act - fit for purpose for a reasonable amount of time - I think 14 months is reasonable for a £500 TV!
Hopefully they`ll do the right thing anyway.
Good luck

RE: Philips 24PW6005@ 24 UPDATE
Hi,
Firstly, many thanks to all who have given advice regarding
this problem.
I contacted Curry`s customer services and they basically said that
I need to get an independent report on the set and send it to them
(should cost approx. £16). If the report states that the problem
existed before purchase then they `may` change the set or provide
a refund. If it is a fault that occurred over time then they will
determine what to offer based upon the engineer`s comments.
As I mentioned initially, the problem of staining occurred after playing
SKY interactive games (in particular, Beehive Bedlam) and faded
after finishing the game leaving a reddy stain on the screen for a couple of seconds. It also appeared intermittently (ok once) when watching a TV programme.
The problem now is that since Sky changed the format of Beehive Bedlam, the colour fading/discolouring and staining appears to have
vanished. I think there may be a slight change in colour down right-side
of screen but it is VERY difficult to tell.
So the question is : do I continue with pursuing Currys for a replacement
set or forget it?
