Problem with Sharp TV

mpd1 (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 13th January 2002, 23:52

I think I have a problem with my Sharp 28 inch widescreen.

When I play a DVD recorded in 4:3 format the TV is automatically stretching the picture to 16:9, instead of keeping it at 4:3, and the picture button won`t let me change it back to 4:3..

This only happens when DVD output and TV are set to RGB. If I use normal video or S-video the picture stays in the correct 4:3 format.

Do all Sharp TVs do this, or is mine faulty?

I don`t think the DVD player (Toshiba 210) is at fault, as this doesn`t happen when connected to my Sanyo widescreen.

Any thoughts?

Have you got auto wide on?

Whether auto wide is on or off doesn`t make any difference. When I change the picture with the size button, all the options still show the stretched picture.

The DVD manual says the TV will select full mode when it receives a widescreen picture through the SCART. This is working, but why is it doing it with a 4:3 picture?
