Connecting Blu Ray Player To My Current Home Theatre System

Hi guys,

I currently have Samsung HT-TZ315 Home Theatre System and am wanting to upgrade to Blu Ray.
Question is, can I get another Samsung or simliar Blu Ray player which I can connect the surround speakers straight into?

Thanks in advance

Richer Sounds have a Samsung BDP1580 cheap atm. £79.95
Use the optical output on the Blu-ray to the optical input of your 5.1
You will also need one of these as well

From the looks of that system you won`t get Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, just DTS. I don`t use optical, but if I cast my mind back on some of the research I did a while ago a BD player will usually give you the option of outputting bitstream or internally decoding to PCM.

With the former the audio is just sent straight to the amp for decoding. In your case that means you`ll get 5.1 audio from discs with DTS, but not from Dolby Digital discs. With PCM the player will decode the audio, but there`s a 2-channel restriction on PCM over S/PDIF so you won`t get full surround sound. Unless the specs are wrong that`s not an ideal device.
