Page 1 of Marantz 4200 or Denon 1602?
Hardware Forum
I don`t know which one to get. Hifistore.co.uk have the Marantz for £260, anybody seen it cheaper?
Hiya,
Hifijunkies are quoting it for £230. Not sure if they have them in stock, but at that that price I suppose it`s worth looking.
Hope this helps.
Neil.
Thanks for the tip, I just looked under the amp section with hifijunkies and didn`t notice the Denons in the A/V receiver bit.
Only probelm is that it may be a few months before they get the stock in.
I`ve mentioned this before on this forum but you may not already know this. I`ve got the 1602 and although I think it is a fantastic amp, there is a problem with sound on some Dolby Digital discs. There are only 2 that I know of - Pearl Harbour and Jurassic Park 3 (there are possibly more). It`s not really a problem with the player, but the way some of the newer discs are being encoded. Dolby are "aware of the problem" and are supposedly sorting it out. I believe this is also an issue with some Onkyo amps.
This just might tip the scales in favour of the Marantz. Looks very good for 230 sovs (apart from the wait). I paid £270 for my Denon and I thought that was cheap!
Jurrasic Park 3 is also available in DTS - which the Denon 1602 is able decode, so it shouldn`t be a problem. When I was considering buying the Marantz over the Denon, Clayts advised me to go for the Denon as it had something in the connections that the Marantz didn`t - therefore making it `futureproof`. Went for the Denon and have no complaints at all.
