Page 1 of Can hard drives be repaired ?
PCs & Mobiles Forum
A friend of mine asked me to look at their pc as they didn`t know too much about them and it would not start up , it turned out the hard drive was " dead " and could not be found by the pc and a replacement cured the problem but the 3.5 floppy drive had also died as well ( electrical surge perhaps ? ) and tried with a known working floppy but got error message saying floppy drive failure code 40 anyway the hard drive is a 20 Gb Fujitsu is it fit for the bin or can it be repaired at a price that is worth the effort ?.

Nah
If you need to recover any data from it, try sticking it in the fridge for a bit (don`t ask, but it worked).
what made it end up in the fridge?

One of the other tech blokes we know said it was an old trick or something. Don`t claim to have heard of it myself, but it worked as the data was recoverable.
I have only got a standard size fridge and once the tower is in there I don`t think there will be any room for the monitor , what I could do is wait until winter then run an extension to the garden and run it up when it gets frosty .
Seriously though thanks for the advice .
