How much should I pay for a Tecra 8100?

Someone here at work is selling a Tecra 8100 P3 750Mhz. 512Mb of Ram, 12 Gb hdd, DVD 14.1 TFT screen. lan card, new case, Windows XP Pro. He wants £500 for it and paid £1500 new. I`m tempted but I dont know how much it is really worth. Is £500 a fair price. I cant access Ebay at work to check on prices they go for, as they block certain sites.
