Stiggy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 1st August 2003, 15:55

I`ve just got myself a new PC & want to transfer all my e-mail adresses, websites, photo`s etc. Do I have to burn them all onto a cd or is there a way with a lead of some desription & a snazzy bit of software ?

Cheers in advance.

Two network cards and a crossover network cable.

Or of you feel confident opening the case, plug the original disk into the new PC and transfer the files directly. Its faster too.

So burning it all onto CD is probably the best way then ?

depends how much data you have. If it is a few hundred megs then it might be. If it is gigs of data then either a network link or linking the harddrives will be faster and easier.

Of course burning to CD will give you a backup as well in case anything goes wrong.

Currys are currently doing 2 network cards and a cable for 30 quid (Belkin I think). Should be all you need but check the cable is a crossover cable, otherwise it wont do.
