Page 1 of Hosting a website - I can do it on my IP, right?

I can do it, free of charge, on my fixed IP, since I have broadband, right?

Of course - providing you do a few things:

1) I`m presuming that you do not have a static IP. If you do, then it`s eaiser
2) If you don`t have the static IP, then there is a free program out there that will allow register your IP everytime you log on - and forward people on to that.
However, if you`re running a webserver then you`ll probably leave your machine on all the time - in which case the IP shouldn`t change (but it can happen)

3) You can now either get a domain name pointed to that IP (or your static one). (eg www.rikbooth.com gets pointed to your static IP, therefore, whenever they enter that address it goes to your IP).
4) You can then run a whole host of web server software from your machine.
In my experience I find Apache to be the most reliable and configurable - although there can be a lot of messing around with it.
You may want to try some free simple ones first (check somewhere like www.tucows.com for Internet web server software)

Just check with your broadband agreement. Some specifically exclude hosting of sites, others limit it to password protected sites with no more than x concurrent users.
