Best Way to Record from VHS
Just got married in Vegas & now I`m back in the sunny UK I want to transfer the wedding video (VHS) PAL & lot`s of digital photographs onto dvd using my nice new DVD+RW drive on my PC. I also have a Philips DVDR 880 in my living room. I have copied the wedding onto a DVD using that but can`t work out how to get it onto my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I`m new to all this. Any recommedations for some decent software would be great too.
I wait in hope,
Stiggy

Stiggy...basically - if you have the footage on DVD then you`re already at an advantage.
You`ve probably heard of all these people who distribute movies on the Internet. The way they do it is to "rip" the DVD and then convert it into whatever format they want to use
Essentially - you need to do a similar thing.
If you use some software like SmartRipper - you can grab the VOB files from the original DVD. You can then use something like FlaskMPEG to convert that into any format you want (avi, MPEG2 etc. etc.)
If you wanted to - you could then re-edit the footage to your liking.
If you don`t want to re-edit it - simply encode into MPEG2 (DVD format)
You can now use the MPEG2 to create a new DVD. You can also put the photos into some kind of slideshow and make that into an MPEG2 file which could be included as an extra video on the DVD.
There`s quite a lot of messing around to be done - but it`s worth it in the end (I`ve just finished editing and creating my own Wedding DVD that I got my friends to film - and the results are great)
For some really good help guides etc. - use www.dvdrhelp.com and www.digital-digest.com
Or you can email me if you wish to get some more help (I know it can be tough!)
