Backing up laptop HD with Desktop DVD RW. How?

DavidLaw (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 26th September 2003, 08:23

Hi, I`ve got a laptop with an external cd writer, but my outlook and documents files now exceed 700mb, so I can`t fit them on a disk. Is there any way I can connect my laptop to my desk-top, which has a DVD RW drive, to back it up onto DVD?

Can I connect via USB perhaps? On that point, I use a pocket pc and synchronise it with my laptop using Active Sync. Does anyone know if ActiveSynch works to synchronise a laptop and a desktop?

Thanks

have you tried ziping the files? i know that winrar will let you split the achrived files to any size that you want.

or try looking on download.com or 2cows and doing a search for synchronising softwear.

there are packages such as Norton ghost that will let you back up your whole hard drive or just bits of it, to cd/floppy whatever.

don`t know if this will help

If both your machines have a network card you can link then with an rj45 crossover cable, or buy 2 wireless cards and the machines should connect to each other. Or you can buy a USB connection cable.
