Page 1 of my drives have vanished......

Can anyone shed some light on this.My floppy drive and u.s.b. memory card reader have vanished from "my computer" When i start the computer the light flashes on the memory card then goes out as per normal , but when i try to select it either through "my computer" or through the photo programe it does not show up . The floppy does not make any noise when the computer starts as it used to , i have tried another floppy drive which works in another computer but still nothing .In the troubleshoot i have followed the new drivers etc and it tells me the device is working but it is not working any ideas.fw600vj

Have you double checked that the IDE cables that are plugged in the back of the drives? Maybe they`ve come loose? Check that cable is plugged into the motherboard properly too..

Also - check that your pc isn`t using the drives in ms-dos mode.

Have you checked to see if the drive is still working? Click on start menu, then run, then type a: and hit enter. That should tell you if the drive is still recognised under Windows.

Hi Ben,neal,chris, i have checked the connections all in place, i renstalled the memory card but still no sign of the drives .After the memory card was installed and i put the card into it the light lit up so it is getting power to it but the computer is not finding it .I don,t have any other u.s.b. devices so i cannot be sure that the u.s.b. connections are working properly.Looks like i will have to leave it in to get sorted thanks for you help.fw600vj

You could try d/l and using a program called TweakUI. It lets you mess about with a host of `hidden` Windows settings, including what drives appear in Explorer. Could be one more simple thing to try...

Hi guys i left my computer in to a mates he works at them last night and got it back this morning .He told me the settings were turned off in the bios .I had the msblast virus about a month ago and downloaded a fix for it , the drives disappeared around the same time, he told me the anti virus was turned off aswell .I have A.V.G. anti virus on my computer and it picks up virus,s is there another anti virus system in windows XP that i did not know about .fw600vj

They will probably be found at the front of your house, where your car is.
